Weaving for the Soul - an Autumn Retreat

Sunday, October 12, 10 AM-6 PM

Tuition $75 includes meals, handouts, materials

This all-day retreat places weaving in the context of a lifestyle change. While working on weaving projects on the simplest of looms (or other handwork of choice), we discuss various ways that we might reallocate our time and our living space to help us to develop our creative work and live a simpler and saner life. Topics include:

  • The Desert Experience - Spirituality, Craft, and Wilderness
  • Art and Soul - why your work is important; why we think it isn't
  • Handwork and Patience - using handwork to develop serenity and a long view
  • Working with Silence - the "still small voice"; what is "noise"?
  • Getting There - goal vs. process in craft and living
  • Whose Universe is it? - coping with guilt; why we don't weave
  • Transitioning - taking the first steps to change
  • Community - places and people who can help; places and people who can't
The retreat will also include a brief introduction to mindfulness meditation; morning coffee/tea, lunch, and afternoon snacks; and, weather permitting, outside activities. Please contact us with information about dietary needs; meals will have gluten-free options available.
