FireWatch Weavers

Updated 8/4/2008 - Classes Resume September 17, 2008

WHAT'S NEW: A Weaver's Retreat, A Warping Service, new photos, children's classes, new cell phone policy.

The Joy is in the Making...

The softness of fleece. The sheen of cottons. The rich, luscious colors of  wools. Working with fiber is an experience that nourishes all the senses and awakens the spark of creativity. Color...texture...shape and form...beauty, brought to life.

FireWatch Weavers offers classes in traditional floor loom weaving (household linens, garments, rugs, and liturgical weaving), European and Navajo tapestry, inkle loom weaving, Central Asian rug weaving, and in spinning with the treadle wheel, the Great Wheel, the Indian charkha and the drop spindle. We provide a "loom finder" service and can order various models of Harrisville, Leclerc, or Schacht looms and equipment. We also offer free consultations for equipment and weaving questions, and will do our best to help you determine a solution. Whether your interest lies in the highly technical or in indigenous forms of the craft, we have classes and projects for you.

WHAT'S NEW?:

  • A Weaver's Retreat Oct. 12
  • A new warping service! Are you out of time, in physical discomfort, or just want to get throwing that shuttle? Beginning in October we will offer a service to perform some or all of your warping tasks. See warping service for details.
  • There are new photos from 2008 in the student gallery.
  • See our Offsite Classes and Demos page for new classes this fall at the Worcester Center for Crafts and demonstrations at the Big E.
  • Children's classes: Do you have a home schooler or a child who in interested in learning to weave or spin? We can teach your child (and you, if you wish) individually or work with a small group. Please contact us for more information.
  • New cell phone policy: As in other educational settings, we now require that cell phones be turned off during scheduled class times (9:30-noon daytimes, 6:30-9 evenings, plus workshops). During open studio, your cell phone must be in "silent" mode (ask your kids how to do this!) and you must go out of the studio to answer it, if anyone else is present.
