Navajo Weaving I and II

Worcester Center for Crafts
25 Sagamore Road
Worcester, MA 01605
Mondays - Oct 20 - Nov 17 (five classes) 6 PM - 9 PM
508-753-8183

This class introduces the beginning student to the basics of Navajo rug weaving: warping the Navajo loom using the two-selvedge technique, weaving with batten, fork, and stick shuttle, creating selvedge-to-selvedge patterns (stripes, pick-and-pick, honeycomb, and checkerboard), and weaving vertical lines with the hooked join. Students create a 10" x 18" tapestry sampler which incorporates all of these techniques.

Continuing students will learn warping with the four-selvedge technique and may continue with the vertical join or learn to incorporate the diagonal. Designs may be provided or the student may create an original design.

Mask Making: A Three-Dimensional Weaving Technique

Worcester Center for Crafts
25 Sagamore Road
Worcester, MA 01605
Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7, time TBA

508-753-8183

Express the inner you - or create a new outer you! - with this amazing, "outside-the-box" pulled-warp weaving method. Weave flat, free-form shapes that slide together to create three-dimensional, expressive faces; the shaped weavings are then enhanced by embroidery, braiding, twining, or tieing on additional elements. Students will learn tapestry techniques such as hatching, twining, and knotting while making their basic shapes. All are encouraged to bring oddments, adornments, accessories and novelty yarns to embellish their newpersonalities. No previous weaving experience is required.
